If you are referring to the state semis loss in OT at GW, that wasn't the offenses fault. GW was solid that year, but poor defense is what cost them that game. GW exploided a bad alignment in the A gap to fun for almost 100 yards on QB sneaks if memory serves. It probably wasn't quite that much but when a QB sneak gets you 20+ yards more than once, something is wrong with you alignment.

The thing you have to understand is that the teams from Region D by and large have never had a greater number of athletes than the schools upstate...they had better football players. There's a difference. In addition, if you really understood the T, you would know that there are more plays than Belly Right. And, IMO Florida is one of the few teams that can pick up short yardage out of the spread...but most teams don't have QBs built like FBs either.

I know there are more plays but ahve seen enough from around here to know that most coaches will run something off tackle on 3rd and 13. When PV has had an athletic QB they have had very little trouble picking up short yardage situations.

That may be true...but the I has put 7 of the 8 state titles that PV have at PV...he spread is still 0 for 1 there. In addition, even in the district, the I produced better results that the spread. And, a variation of the T put the remaining state trophy at PV as well. Common sense tells ya that the more blockers you have at the point of attack, the more yards you should gain. You can't just rely on spreading out an athletic defense thinking you have a lone athlete who will tear em up. That's matching the speed of 11 against the speed of 1..and that's called a mismatch.

The Region has won exactly one state title since PV's last state title, it's not the system its the athletes. Overall, we just don't have the players here we had 15 years ago. I'm not sure I could ever be convinced that the athletic ability of 1 vs. 11 at the single A level is a bad thing. From Zach Terrell to Nick Miller to Cedric Pearman to DJ Coles and I could go on. You'll rarely if ever see the best player lose in the state title game.

To me the Spread might work down in this area with the athletes in this area but when you take our athletes up state to the title game and try to run the Spread it just doesnt work as well as a good power O. The Athletes from that area are usually a lot quicker than ours and face the Spread more than the T or I. We just dont have the athletes in this area to run the Spread well against the quickness of teams in Region B or A. I thought I would like the Spread at one time but now find myself thinking like Ironlung. I actually despise it. Give me a good Power Offense any day! The more balanced the better.

Exactly.. And in inclement weather 2X..

By the time you could get inclement weather your not playing on grass, a good spread team can run it and throw it. You guys love the option, not a fan of speed option out of the spread?

I'm just not a fan of the spread at all...and whether a team is playing on grass or turf, in bad weather the ball is still gonna be slick and it's much easier to hand off or pitch it than it is to pass it in those conditions. The playing surface wasn't my point there. I just come from the school of thought that whichever team makes the fewest mistakes will usually win. And, I prefer an offense that limits the possibility of mistakes and turnovers...and the spread does little to do that.
